Script
A hymn e.g. 'If I were a butterfly' could be sung at the start.

Introduction: Welcome to our assembly. We hope you will enjoy it.
Our assembly is about our senses.
We thank God for giving us life and for our senses.

This is a teddy. He doesn't have senses. God didn't give him life. He can't see. He can't hear. He can't taste. He can't smell. He can't touch.
This is __________ . She is living. God gave her life. God gave her five senses.

Song (5 children): Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes

We use our eyes to see all the beautiful things in God's World.
I like to look at flowers. (Hold up paintings.)

We use our ears to hear all the beautiful sounds in God's World.
I like the sound of (children's ideas)

We use our mouths to taste all the beautiful food and drink in God's World.
I like chocolate ice cream with chocolate fudge sauce.
I like Coca Cola ........and Pepsi too.
Here is a poem about my favourite food spaghetti - On top of spaghetti
On top of spaghetti,
All covered with cheese,
I lost my poor meatball
When somebody sneezed.
It rolled off the table
And onto the floor,
And then my poor meatball
Rolled right out the door.

We use our noses to smell all the beautiful things in God's world.

My Head - Action Poem
This is the circle that is my head.
(Make large circle with both hands.)
This is my mouth with which words are said.
(Point to mouth.)
These are my eyes with which I see.
(Point to eyes.)
This is my nose that's a part of me.
(Point to nose.)
This is the hair that grows on my head.
(Point to hair.)
And this is my hat all pretty and red.
(Place hands on head, fingers pointing up and touching.)

I love the smell of burgers and chips in McDonalds... and Burger King too...

We use our hands to touch all the wonderful things God made.
I like soft furry teddies and wriggly worms (another child running after her).

Song (Two children lead. All children sing.)
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens,
Bright copper kettles and warm woollen mittens,
Brown paper packages tied up with string,
These are a few of my favourite things.

Invite everybody to join in and sing above lines again.

We can help people if we use our senses well.

Role play
Two children playing. A third child on her own a little distance away.
Child on her own falls over and cries (loudly). Other children stop and listen. Child cries again.
Other child says, "Shhh! I can hear somebody crying.
What should we do?
Something is wrong. We must help."
They go to the child and pick her up. They comfort her.
She stops crying and says, "Thank you for helping me. Thank you for coming when you heard me."
Another child comes along with (mid-day supervisor's) name written on a label on her chest.
She says, "Well done for helping ________ when you heard her in trouble. I might give you an award for this. Listen at the Assembly on Friday and you will find out."
Children bow and walk off.

Children should write and read individual prayers thanking God for senses at the end.
